Welcome To Scattered Books!
Scattered Books is Chappaqua’s own family owned and operated bookstore. Located in an antique house at 29 King Street, Scattered Books is a small town destination for gifts, author signings, events for kids and adults and of course, books! We happily serve Westchester County, NY including Chappaqua, Pleasantville, Armonk, Briarcliff Manor, Bedford, Mt. Kisco, Katonah & beyond. We accept online orders and ship anywhere.
Scattered Books prides itself on friendly service & recommendations, gifts for all, special orders, bookish gifts, a private party room and so much more. We carry bestsellers, staff picks, fiction and non-fiction, eclectic accessories and amazing candles by A Cheerful Giver. Dedicated shelves holds teen reading, middle grade chapter books, graphic novels and picture/board books for our younger audience. Our selection of children’s fiction and non-fiction is complimented by toys and puzzles from Innovative Kids, Floss & Rock, iScream, eeBoo, Usborne and others.
The Scattered Books Literary Lounge is the perfect spot to rent for any occasion and also the venue for our creative and thematic kids parties. Custom party favors available with or without a party. And of course, Acorn and Oatmeal, our bookstore bunnies are always here to enhance your shopping or party experience.

What are your hours?
- Hours: Friday: 10 AM–6 PM Saturday: 10 AM–5 PM Sunday: 10 AM–4 PM Monday: Closed Tuesday: 10 AM–6 PM Wednesday: 10 AM–6 PM Thursday: 10 AM–6 PM
Do you host author events and book signings?
- Yes! We host several throughout the year, plus book fairs around Westchester featuring multiple authors. Sign up for our newsletter below so you don't miss anything.
Can I special-order a book that's not in stock?
- Absolutely. If it's not on our shelves, we can usually track down any in-print title and have it ready for you within a few days. Stop by the counter, give us a call, or send an email.
Do you buy used books or take trade-ins?
- No, we don't buy used books. We do occasionally accept donations, but not for resale. We partner with the local library and other organizations on book collection drives.
Are kids and dogs welcome in the store?
- We love furry friends of all kinds! Just keep them leashed, since our Bookstore Bunnies aren't always in their cage and we want to keep everyone safe. Kids are absolutely welcome too. We've got a big kids' section and host children's parties most weeks.
Do you offer gift wrapping or gift cards?
- Yes to both! During the holidays, we also run gift-wrapping events for a small fee.
Can I reserve a book over the phone or online?
- We hold books in person, by phone, or by email. Just let us know which title you'd like and we'll set it aside for you.
